Engines Continue to Show Diversity
"P1 Engines
powered drivers run at the front of the field in a variety of
different platforms"
In one of the busiest karting weekends of the season, P1 Engines
powered customers could be seen across the country. With major
events taking place in California, Arizona and Indiana, the
chance for podiums and race wins in multiple different series
and with several different engine platforms was abundant and
coming out on top yet again was P1 Engines.
At the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturer's Cup
program in South Bend, Indiana, P1 Engines would shine in
several categories but none more important than the competitive
Parilla Leopard Only class with Texan Mason Chelootz. The
talented pilot started the heat race in the thirteenth position
but by the time the final checkered flag had flown, Chellotz
would be on the point and take the race win. Fellow P1 Engines
pilot Chris Wehrheim would take the heat race win but be
Chelootz's bridesmaid as the pair of drivers sit first and
second in the overall series point standings with their strong
results.
Chelootz and Wehrheim would not be done there as both would
enter multiple divisions. Wehrheim would have a spirited drive
in the TaG 2 class as an outside row six qualifying effort would
see him start the heat race in the twelfth position, but when
the dust had settled he managed a third place podium result and
took over the series point lead. Chelootz claimed another podium
finish in the Komet Heavy class claiming the second position and
is the overall point leader in that division as well showing P1
Engines' true strength.
In the junior divisions it was Raquel Martinez and Alex Keyes
who would provide the strong results for the California-based
engine builder. With both drivers having some bad luck in
separate divisions, both would also come home with top five
results over the weekend. In the Komet Junior Lite class,
Martinez would claim a fourth place result while Michigan's Alex
Keyes would come home in fifth. On the strength of another top
five, Martinez continues to lead the Komet Junior Lite point
standings.
In the Yamaha Junior Heavy class, Keyes would shine in
qualifying claiming the second position and missing the pole by
a scant .002. Looking to stay out of trouble, Keyes battled for
the lead in the main event but would eventually finish in the
fourth position matching his best result in WKA action this
season.
In the ultra-competitive Komet Junior Sportsman division,
Californian Zane Smith would turn his fourth place qualifying
effort into a solid second place result and gain ground on the
current championship point leader.
Across the country at the opening round of the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA)
Pro Tour, P1 Engines showed their speed with the Rok TT package
claiming the pole position in TaG Senior both days with front
running driver Mason Marotta. While gremlins took both Marrotta
and P1 Engines powered driver Matt Johnson out of competition,
the duo would be back on Sunday to fight for the race win. After
qualifying on the pole, Marotta would claim a fourth place
result when the day was completed with fellow P1 driver Matt
Johnson driving to the victory.
In the talent laded TaG Junior class, Canadian Parker Thompson
would have a trying day on Saturday but would make up for it in
Sunday's action. After struggling through the heat races,
Thompson would start the main from the tail of the field and,
looking like a seasoned veteran, he would drive to the front to
give P1 Engines their second victory of the event and third of
the weekend.
Due north from the SKUSA event in Tucson, Arizona, the third
round of the Cal State Championship Series was held in Fresno,
California with P1 Engines securing five top five results
including another victory. Taking home top honors in the Comer
80 class was Noah Garza and Carter Herrera as the duo was the
class of the field and provided P1 with a one-two finish.
Skylar Estrada would take over the KPV 1 point lead with a solid
third place result while Thomas Mejia and Oliver Calvo would
finish fourth and fifth in the C51 class.
"It is hard when you have drivers and teams utilizing your
equipment at different events across the country," expressed P1
Engines Jesus Vasquez. "A special thanks must go out to Marc
Miller Jr. for servicing all the P1 Engines and helping my
customers in Tucson as well as Glenn Araki for his help and
support in Fresno."
