Raquel Martinez Gatorz CalSpeed Report
“California native scores podium at home race”
Just one week after watching her favorite NASCAR drivers
Raquel Martinez returned to California Speedway for the
second round of the Gatorz Challenge of Americas. For round
two Raquel made the switch to P1 engines, which is who she
uses for all of her racing programs.
After a solid day of practice the skies opened up Friday
night and would not let up the entire day Saturday. Raquel
qualified in the 9th position, but was not able to start the
prefinal due to a faulty fuel pump. Because of the weather
the officials decided to hold race number three of the
series bright and early Sunday morning. Starting 22nd on a
very slick track Raquel muscled her way through the field
aboard her Top Kart Flash passing for 3rd place on the final
lap. The remainder of the day did not go as well with the
team struggling to solve what they thought was a carb issue,
but turned out to be a bad battery. Raquel ended the day
13th in the second final.
“This was an up and down weekend for us, but we know where
we need to improve and we will work on these things before
the final round at Infineon,” commented Martinez. “Infineon
is a track I really enjoy racing at and a place our karts
perform well at.”
Raquel would like to thank her sponsors: King Taco, Pepsi,
Grand Products, Top Kart, P1 Engines, Alpinestars, Troy Lee
Designs, PKS Kart Supplies, MLP Imaging, and Graphix Plus.
