- The number of the race groups is
usually ten or eleven depending on the number of entrants for each
race day. Race groups may consists of one or two classes combined
together to make a good sized starting field.
- The IKF has classes for both
2-cycle and 4-cycle engine karts, there are (16) 2-cycle classes,
(15) 4-cycle classes and (12) Shifter classes. These include classes
for four age groups: 5-8 years old; 8-11 years old; 12-15 years old;
and 16 years old & up. All classes have a minimum total kart
weight including driver, these are checked on scales as the karts
leave the race track after each race. See NNKC Class Structure for
availability of race classes at our track.
- Please check the current IKF rules
in the IKF Competition Regulation and Technical Manual. Also check
the current regional and local option rules.
- First time drivers, drivers moving
up from Jr. Cadet or moving from a "clutch" class to a
"shifter" class will start at the rear of their respective
class for 3 race meets, not heats. They must display a large
"X" on an ORANGE rear number plate.
- 3 karts make a championship class.
- Qualifying times from second class
practice determine starting order for the 1st heat, no invert, and
2nd heat, 6 maximum invert. No points for qualifying. Points from
heat 1 and 2 determine grid for heat 3, with X-heads starting in the
rear regardless of points.
- Overall finishing positions are
determined by the IKF Point Scoring System. However at the NNKC, we
will hae a winner take all main. we will have 2 heats and .1 main.
Heat points determine starting position in the main
- Points for each heat: 1st(0),
2nd(2), 3rd(3), 4th(4), 5th(5), 6th(6), 7th(7), 8th(8), 9th(9),
10th(10), 11th(11), 12th(12), 13th(13), 14th(14),
15(15),16th(16),17th(17),18th(18),19th,(19),20th(20)
- Races will consist of 2 heats of 6
laps, 10 laps and 12 lap winner take all main. Qualifying order
determines line-up for heat 1. 6 kart invert in heat 2. Points from
heats 1 and 2 determine grid positions for main. Finishing
positionin first heat will break the tie for the position in the
main. (No Invert for Jr 1-2 in heat 2, X-heads always grid at the
rear)
- Must be a NNKC Club member in good
standing and an IKF member to earn championship points. New for 2006
is a 10 race championship series with 1 throwaway and 1 "class
workday".Every class workday participant recieves first place
points toward their championship. 8 best finishes plus points received
at your respective class workday count towards championship. Class
workday CANNOT be used as your throwaway.
- Fuel for 2006 will be as follows:
All classes will run 110 Sunnoco or VP. The only exceptions will be
NNKC World Formula which will run 91 octane pump gas and Rotax Max/Rotax
Heavy which will run VP MS 98. The oils for all class will be
Blendzall and Maxima 927 castor oils (Torrco Pending testing) and
Motul 800 and Redline synthetic oil.
- Jr. Cadet is an exhibition only
class and will run (3) 5-lap heats. All participants shall receive
identical awards.
- Restarts: IKF rules shall apply.
Absolutely no restarts after the green flag has dropped.
- Sportsmanship: There shall be no
throwing of helmets, neck collars or other equipment; displays of
anger; loud exchanges with other drivers or officials; inappropriate
language or gestures. Drivers are responsible for the actions of
their crew and guests. The driver shall lose three (3) positions for
the first violation of this rule. Penalty for continued violation of
this rule shall be determined by the race director.
- No Practice at the track Monday
through Friday of the week prior to an "IKF REGIONAL
EVENT".
- No scuffing or warming of tires
allowed
Club Rules
- General Memberships purchased after
September 30th, will pay $275.00 and be credited towards the next
year.
- All karts using Desert Park Raceway
must meet all current IKF (International Kart Federation)
specifications and safety regulations. As of 2006 membership in IKF
is mandatory.
- IKF approved air boxes for all
2-cycle karts, and IKF approved mufflers for all karts, are
mandatory at all times.
- The use of alcoholic beverages and
/ or illegal drugs is prohibited at all times.
- All drivers (members & guests)
must wear approved IKF protective gear as follows: Helmet (Snell
2000), Face Shield or Goggles, Gloves, abrasive resistant driving
suit (nomex is not abrasive resistant) or Protective Jacket made of
abrasive resistant nylon material, Neck Brace, Full Length Pants,
Protective High Top Shoes or Boots.
- Drip pans must be use in the pits
at all times. Pits must be keep clean.
- Operating Fire Extinguisher with
current Certificate Tag and First Aid Kit Required in every pit.
- Track runs in a counter clockwise
direction only.
- Be courteous and safe to yourself
and other drivers, and be extra safe with junior drivers. Junior
drivers never race with senior drivers.
- OPEN PRACTICE RULES: Top of the
hour till 15 after, Jr. Cadet/Jr 1-2. 15 after till 30 after the
hour all 80 shifter classes. 30 after till 45 after the hour all
clutch classes. 45 after till the top of the hour 125 classes. If
you go out late in your session you must leave the track when the
next session begins. Your 15 minutes does not start when you enter
the track. When Jr. Cadet/Jr. 1-2 drivers are on the track no other
group may enter the track, no exceptions.
- Guest drivers: A club member may
bring prospective members to the track as their guest to drive the
kart. This privilege is for 2 times only. After that the guest will
be encouraged to join the club.
- Club members assume full
responsibility for their guest's actions.
- All club members must have a
current NNKC membership card in their possession while using club
facilities. Members must present membership card to any other member
upon request.
- As an NNKC member in good standing,
you are afforded the privileges to one vote on any issue brought
before the membership and the use of Desert Park Raceway during
normal operating hours. Normal operating hours are, seven days a
week, sunup to sundown, except for: Race days, controlled practice
days, week of Reno Air Races, designated hours of operation for
driving schools, or for the track work days.
- The Desert Park Raceway is for the
use of all members. Please take care of it as if it were your own.
You as a member, have the responsibility to report any misconduct by
any other person. Let's help to keep our facility something that we
can all take pride in.
- When at the track, it is your
responsibility to keep unauthorized persons from entering or using
the facility. It is strongly urged for safety reasons, that you lock
the gate behind you on practice days. This prevents unauthorized
entries to the property, who could, while you are out on the track
wander onto the racing surface.
- All NNKC members are required to
lock the gate if they are the last person to leave. This is to keep
non-members from using or vandalizing the club facilities.
- During the month of January, the
gate is locked, "lock within a lock" to afford a grace
period for all member to get a new key for the coming year.
- To be a successful club, we will
need volunteer workers at times. Club members will be expected to
help with track maintenance, as well as help on race day. You are
required to put in 2 workdays as well as your class work day as your
hours of volunteer service to the Club per year as part of your
membership.
- Pets must be leashed at all times.
- Violation of any of these Rules and
Regulations will be acted upon by the Board of Directors.
